Christian Koonce, a dedicated student-athlete, was born in New York City and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Smith Language Academy, where he was part of the German Language Immersion Program, becoming fluent in German. Christian continued his education at Charlotte United Christian Academy before graduating from West Charlotte High School in June 2018. 

During his time at West Charlotte, Christian served as the Senior Varsity Basketball Team Captain and was actively involved in the Chess Club, DECA (An Association of Marketing Students), and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Following high school, Christian completed a post-graduate year at Liberty Heights Athletic Institute. He then attended Brunswick Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. While at BCC, Christian was recognized as the NJCAA-Region 10-D1 "Player of the Week" (March 14-21, 2021) and earned a spot on the NJCAA-Region 10-D1 2nd Team. He was also on the Dean's List.

Christian went on to play basketball at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, finishing as the team's leading scorer and earning a place on the Dean's List. After Chowan, Christian pursued an MBA at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, GA, where he continued to excel on the court, leading his team in scoring against conference opponents.

He is currently playing basketball at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN, and is on track to graduate with his MBA in 2025.

Christian's mother, Valerie Walker, is the former Circulation Manager for The Source and The Source Sports magazines. She is currently a Career Development Coordinator for Gaston County Schools in North Carolina. His father, George Koonce, is a former linebacker for the Green Bay Packers and now serves as the Senior Vice President for University Relations at Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Christian is a member of Deliverance Holiness Church in Lancaster, South Carolina.
